LANDMARK HOMES LEADS THE WAY TO BUILD FIRST NET ZERO COMMUNITY IN ALBERTA | Mar 22, 2012

Environmentally conscious home builder assembles the first high efficiency home in a Net Zero community

CALGARY, AB (March 5, 2012) – Landmark Homes (Calgary) Inc., a member of Landmark Group of Builders began the assembly of their first Net Zero showhome at a special “house assembly “ event in Cranston today. This home marks the first of Landmark’s Net Zero energy, production-oriented suburban homes. In partnership with Brookfield Residential Properties, Landmark demonstrated the latest in “green” technology as the Net Zero house was assembled in just a few hours. The initiative will see the construction of 27 sustainably built and extremely energy efficient move-up homes, making it the first community of its kind in Alberta.

Landmark uses an industrialized precision building system to ensure all Landmark Homes deliver the highest standard of engineering excellence, quality materials, and sustainable efficiency. Landmark produces panelized walls and roofs at their manufacturing facility in Edmonton, resulting in a higher quality home with extremely shorter building times at a better price. The environmentally efficient structures are then transported to site and efficiently assembled on pre-finished foundation in one day.

“We’re proud to be the first home builder to offer this sustainable building process to Calgary Homebuyers on this scale,” said Sam Attia, President, Landmark Homes (Calgary) Inc. “We are committed to providing an option that could potentially eliminate monthly electricity charges entirely for homeowners, among other sustainable benefits.”

The Landmark showhome will be a full Net Zero home generating clean energy from its solar photo voltaic (PV) panels. The sustainable Net Zero homes will produce as much energy as they consume on an annual basis. The showhome is estimated to produce over 8,500 kWh of electricity annually that will offset approximately seven tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

All 27 homes will be capable of generating electricity through solar PV panels that may allow homeowners to produce as much electricity as they consume annually. All homes will achieve Built Green Platinum status, one of the highest recognized green building ratings.

These unique environmentally friendly and energy efficient homes are attainable to the average homeowner with no change to design aesthetics, lifestyle and comfort. They are specifically designed for suburban living while keeping a sustainable way of life top of mind. The homeowner can find value in the net zero upgrade with the significant reduction in overall utility costs and resultant greenhouse gas emissions.

Landmark Homes will host a public tour event in spring 2012 to showcase the next phase of the Net Zero project.
